Funding
About
The University provides an array of funding in the form of assistantships, fellowships, research and travel grants.
- Over 150 graduate students received UMass Graduate School grants (Predissertation Research Grant, the Dissertation Fieldwork Grant, the MFA Thesis Grant, the Rapid Research Grant, the Supplement for Travel with Children, and the Supplement for Public Engagement) in 2025-2026, totaling roughly $185,000
- 25 Armstrong Research Grants were awarded in 2025-2026, totaling roughly $300,000
- 32 doctoral students received a Dissertation Completion Fellowship in 2025-2026, totaling roughly $250,000
Fellowships and Grants
The Graduate School and some Colleges have a limited number of fellowships to recruit outstanding graduate students. We also offer competitive grants and fellowships to support doctoral and MFA thesis research, travel, and professional development.
